About Us

Dale Smith has called Boonville, NC home for the past 23 years.  He and his wife of 34 years, Valerie Smith, raised their two children, Carlee Shircliffe and Christian Smith in this “Great Little Town”. Dale noticed a need for mental health services in the area and wanted to open a private practice to meet the needs of his community.  The result was the formation of Foothills Behavioral Health that provides services for individuals and families in Yadkin and surrounding Counties.  

For the past seven years, Dale has been the Director of Behavioral Health at the Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina. He looks forward to establishing his own practice which will include individuals of all ages, couples and families.  From the beginning, Dale has had an ease with bonding and developing good rapport with individuals quickly.

Dale received his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Gardner Webb University in 2006 and his master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University in 2012.   He has formal training in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dale specializes in working with PTSD, Acute Trauma, Anxiety, Depression and ADHD. He is a Board-Certified Qualified Supervisor for undergraduates and Master’s level graduates seeking licensure in North Carolina.  He also provides additional services that can be found on the website.  

Dale is licensed by NC Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Qualified Supervisor.  License number QS140632.
